The following types of patients are suitable for referral to the Spinal Foundation for assessment of their suitability for Cervical or Lumbar Minimally Invasive Spinal Surgery:
- Patients who have undertaken but failed:
- Extensive physiotherapy.
- "Coping" courses.
- Cognitive Therapy.
- Chronic Pain Management.
- Multi-disciplinary group therapy.
- Patients referred for Chronic Pain Management.
- Patients who are suffering with with:
- Single or Multi-level disc disease.
- Disc protrusions, extrusions or sequestra.
- Radial Tears.
- Failed Back Surgery.
- Spondylolytic Spondylolisthesis.
- Lateral Recess Stenosis.
- Non-compressive radiculopathy.
- Instability (Angular / Slipping).
- Protrusion aggravated Axial Stenosis.
- Degenerative Scoliosis.
- Single Vertebral Metastasis.
- Patients deemed by others to be unsuitable for conventional surgical treatment because of:
- Exhibiting Illness Behaviour.
- Manic Depression.
- Pain of ill defined origin.
- Those on Chronic Pain Management.
- Elderly or Infirm Patients - (Our oldest operated patient was 94 years young)
- Osteoporotic Fractures.
- Diabetes Mellitus.
- Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting
- Angina.
- CVA (Stroke).
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Patients who are:
- Elderly
- Infirm
- Sportsmen and women
- Entertainers
- Patients who are not suitable for MISS but who may benefit from treatment by Consultants at the Spinal Foundation
- Pregnant Patients
- Severe Axial Stenosis
- Multiple Vertebral Secondary cancer deposits
We advocate that patients attend with:
- A letter of referral from their General Practitioner or Specialist.
- A completed Spinal Foundation questionnaire assessing their condition.
- Dynamic weight bearing X-rays.
- Prior MRI or CAT Scans
